Age Requirement
The age restrictions for Tournament League are 8 – 17 years of age.
Here is what is expected from a Tournament League competitor:
1) Competitors are able to play independently on the golf course as there are no parents/caddies allowed on the course during competitive matches. Thus, competitors will be responsible for carrying or pulling their own clubs for all 9 holes of a match.
2) Competitors are responsible for following the rules of golf while competing and recording and reporting accurate scores. This includes keeping a good pace of play on the golf course by moving quickly from one shot to another. This also includes competing with respect, honesty, integrity and good sportsmanship.
3) Competitors are responsible for safety on the golf course premise. This includes following safety guidelines provided by coaches and participating golf courses.
4) Competitors are responsible for keeping their own score and must also be able to keep the score of an assigned competitor. This includes holding other competitors accountable for following rules, and keeping an accurate score.
The Tryout
Tryouts are held prior the start of a season. Each season, there are approximately 30 open spots available to the highest scorers from the tryout. Tournament League hopefuls will be assessed in the following areas during the tryout:
Putting Ability – A player will play a 6-hole putting course from distances of 6-feet, 12-feet and 25-feet. A score of 18 or better is required to qualify for Tournament League.
Chipping Ability – A player will hit a total of six balls from a distance of 20 yards toward a target 20-feet in diameter. A player must hit and stop at least one ball in the target to qualify for Tournament League.
Driving Ability – A player will take a total of six attempts to hit their driver to an area 25-yards wide and must carry a ball at least 50 yards. A player must be successful in at least one attempt to qualify for Tournament League.
Rosters are announced two days after a tryout is completed. If a player earns a spot on a roster, they will receive an invitation to register for Tournament League.
A Tournament League season costs $250 per competitor. This fee includes a team golf shirt, a team golf hat, seven (7) 9-hole rounds of golf, a warm-up range basket prior to each match, officiating, scoring and medals for our top finishers.

Eligibility
As a reminder, the purpose of this league is: To provide an opportunity for members of First Tee – Greater Pasadena to participate in competitive golf matches as a means to practice and develop the life-skills and core values introduced by coaches, staff, and volunteers.
We exist to build the strength of character that empowers them through a lifetime of new challenges.
Each tournament league competitor must also participate in First Tee – Greater Pasadena Life Skills Education classes (Player, Par, Birdie, Teen, Eagle level classes).
To maintain eligibility for the next season of Tournament League, competitors must attend 75% of their Life-Skills Education golf classes (6 of 8 classes). If a competitor does not attend the minimum 75% they will lose their eligibility for Tournament League for two passing seasons. (For example, a competitor competes in spring ‘21 but does not attend 75% of their spring ’21 classes, they will lose eligibility for summer ’21 and fall ’21 seasons and will regain eligibility for Tournament League in spring ’22). If you miss a class, your coach will gladly help you find a make-up class to attend.
